Decompression (non-surgical therapy)

When it comes to reducing pain and improving structure, we know you want relief as quickly as possible. Even more, you want results, without a lengthy recovery from surgery.

How does decompression work?

The pull and release of decompression gives the disc an opportunity to alternatively flush and absorb new nutrients. Decompression also creates a vacuum in the disc to suck the nucleus back in, allowing for healing of the disc. Once you have relief, it's important to continue with maintenance adjustments, so the disc does not weaken.

When would I need decompression?

Decompression can relieve many common problems, including:

  • Low Back Pain
  • Sciatica (back pain that travels down your legs)
  • Herniated/Bulging Disc
  • Neck Pain
  • Muscle Spasm or Weakness
  • Mid-Back Pain
  • Shoulder Pain

Why would I need decompression?

Your discs are like sponges. They absorb nutrients to stay healthy. If they are compressed, no nutrients can be absorbed which can cause your discs to dry out and crack, like old leather. These cracks are called "herniations." Herniated discs can worsen until the cracks allow the nucleus of the disc (a jelly like substance) to push against the wall of the disc causing protrusions, called bulging discs. This puts more pressure on the nerves, causing pain. When the cracks break through the disc wall, the nucleus leaks out of the disc. This is called a ruptured disc. With proactive care: herniated, bulging and ruptured discs can be avoided and corrected without surgery.
